About Six Organs of Admittance

A remarkably versatile and inventive guitarist, Ben Chasny has stayed busy with a wide range of collaborations. Yet much of his most original and compelling music has emerged under the banner of Six Organs of Admittance, his long-running solo project. Born in Los Angeles, Chasny played bass in punk bands as a teenager before taking up acoustic guitar and immersing himself in the music of folk great Bert Jansch as well as experimental-music figures such as Caspar Brötzmann. Beginning with his first, self-titled album under the Six Organs name in 1998 and continuing alongside his tenures in acts such as Comets On Fire, Current 93 and Rangda, Chasny has explored the furthest fringes of folk, psychedelia and drone-based music. While releases such as 2007’s Shelter from the Ash saw him experiment with a heavier electric-guitar sound, Chasny’s playing and compositional sense remain distinctive no matter what the context or decibel level.
