About Rev. Johnny L. 'Hurricane' Jones
Since the late '50s, Rev. Johnny L. Jones has preached at Second Mount Olive Baptist Church in Atlanta, mixing sermons with raw gospel music that sometimes uses R&B/soul-influenced accompaniment. Born in Alabama, Jones sang in the gospel groups Jolly Four Gospel Singers and the Sensational Five Gospel Singers before moving to Georgia. During his time in Atlanta, he's had radio shows on WAOK and WYZE, taping his church services every week so they can be broadcast on the stations. In 2010, Dust-to-Digital issued a double-CD compilation of material from his tapes, along with an LP, Jesus Christ from A to Z, that contains different recordings. ~ Richie Unterberger
