About Jason Nesmith

Actor, guitarist, and singer/songwriter Jason Nesmith began his career in entertainment on the stage. A veteran of films, plays, and musicals by his late teens, the son of ski-capped Monkee Michael Nesmith attended the prestigious Berklee School of Music before returning to Los Angeles and joining the heavy metal band Kills for Thrills. The group put out an EP and a full-length on MCA Records in 1990, but the bandmembers eventually went their separate ways. Nesmith formed the Beauties in 1992, releasing one record on Gasoline Alley before calling it quits and moving to London the following year with longtime friend and fellow celebrity offspring Donovan Leitch to form the glam rock band Nancy Boy. The group produced three records and one Top Ten single (in England and Australia) between 1993 and 1998 before calling it quits. Nesmith relocated back to Los Angeles in 2000 and released a solo EP called Nomedia. It was followed in 2001 by the full-length Welcome to Pleasure Island on his own Nomedia label. In 2002, Nesmith inked a deal as a writer/producer for Universal Music Publishing. He found time between composing scores for television and performing with and producing numerous international acts to release a second album, Portrait, in 2006 on Fundamental Records. That year also found Nesmith beginning work on a new collection of songs. ~ James Christopher Monger
