About Infinite Music

Inspired by the sprawling, spiritual compositions of minimalist composer La Monte Young, friends and collaborators Sonic Boom, Etienne Jaumet, and Celine Wadier came together as Infinite Music. The trio materialized for a live concert in Lisbon, Portugal in the fall of 2017, and a recording of the hypnotic performance became the group's debut album. Spacemen 3 member Sonic Boom (aka Pete Kember) had already explored drifting electronic drones with his Experimental Audio Research project before meeting Zombie Zombie member Etienne Jaumet. The two shared a fascination with the boundless work of La Monte Young, and worked toward a collaboration with vocalist and tanpura player Celine Wadier that would mirror the meditative and searching qualities of Young's work. Originally conceptualized as part of the 2016 celebration of the Velvet Underground's 50th anniversary, the trio, now dubbed Infinite Music, wouldn't perform until a year later. With Sonic Boom playing various synthesizers, Jaumet on electronics, saxophone, and vocals, and Wadier playing tanpura and singing, the trio gave a 2017 concert of three slowly shifting drone pieces, which were released the next year as A Tribute to La Monte Young on the Fire Records label. ~ Fred Thomas
