In 2022, Jay Wheeler made a profound musical statement with the artistically diverse album Emociones. Evidently, the Puerto Rican singer wasn’t done with the record’s rich genre-hopping world-building, as this half-hour-long complement bears out over the course of its nine additional tracks. From the echoey “Intro” and the similarly balladic “Te La Dedico” to the decidedly more club-centric moments of “Xexo” and the thumping “Trampa”, the EP continues his mission of playing a variety of styles while concurrently retaining his identity. His emboldened choices take him to interesting places, alongside Luar La L, Dei V and Hades66 on trap’s cutting edge for “Pacto” and full-throatedly into the English-language pop space on “For You”, the latter a measured dismissal of an ex-lover.
