Steve Wilson

Steve Wilson is an American jazz multi-instrumentalist whose primary instruments are saxophones, but he also plays flute, clarinet, and piccolo. He records under his own name and is also a prolific sideman. He backed Albert King at 16, but it was his membership in Out of the Blue and in the bands of Jaki Byard, Frank Foster, and Ralph Peterson that established his reputation. Wilson's debut, New York Summit, appeared in 1992 and was followed by albums including Blues for Marcus, Step Lively, and in 1996, Four for Time. In 1998, Wilson played in Dave Holland's and Leon Parker's bands and joined Chick Corea & Origin, with whom he cut five albums by 2001. Following Wilson releases like 2003's Soulful Song and 2017's Sit Back, Relax & Unwind, he joined Christian McBride's studio and touring bands in 2020. 2023's Live at Umbria Jazz saw him in duo with Lewis Nash.
