About Fritz Kreisler
Arguably the father of classical crossover, Viennese composer and violinist Fritz Kreisler (1875-1962) cultivated a huge following among popular music fans, particularly in the United States, in a career spanning eight decades. Kreisler's short, tuneful pieces -- many deliberately accredited to other composers -- such as Liebesfreud, Marche Miniature Viennois, Liebesleid, and Caprice Viennois were once known to every music lover and remain an essential part of the violin repertoire. Kreisler made many recordings from 1910 to 1946, some becoming million sellers; although he stopped practicing in about 1919, only a little decline in his flexibility and tone is notable afterward.
