Our store and office playlists began life on alphabetised alabaster cassettes, containing questionable combinations of New York bebop and Melbourne post-punk, Nina Simone and Gregorian chants. Tracks were painstakingly documented by an anonymous hand, transferred to CD and given unassuming titles such as "Retail Therapy". We skipped mini-disc, and nowadays are seduced by the sirens of streaming. While those earlier mixtapes—now myths among Aesopians—are locked away in our Treasury, their fragrance lives on in the playlists we share with you here.
