Ruders: Viola Concerto & Handel Variations

Ruders: Viola Concerto & Handel Variations

Dane Poul Ruders’ Viola Concerto is an impressive creation in one movement that conveys a captivating sense of growth as its single melodic line undergoes numerous transformations. The magnificent Lars Anders Tomter plays this lyrical piece with supreme confidence and massive conviction. This is wonderfully approachable music. The Handel Variations (2009) takes an eight-bar theme from the Water Music’s Bourree and subjects it to 90 variations. It’s very clever and a lot of fun. Fabulously well recorded.
