This Mortal Coil Essentials

This Mortal Coil were less a conventional band than a musical outlet for Ivo Watts-Russell, co-founder of the influential label 4AD. Working with producer John Fryer, he envisioned a dream-pop and psychedelic supergroup unbound by regular rock structures. Appearing on the group's three albums were most of the 4AD roster: members of Cocteau Twins, Dif Juz, The Breeders, Throwing Muses and Dead Can Dance. The LPs' host of cover tunes, drawn largely from the late '60s, were turned into atmospheric, goth-tinged dramas, most famously a version of Tim Buckley's "Song to the Siren".
