Junior Murvin Essentials

Junior Murvin became a reggae superstar on the strength of his sweet and smooth falsetto, which drove his global hit “Police and Thieves” in 1976. He hit the scene in early '70s in Jamaica, finding initial success with the psych-dub track “Solomon”, riding a classic riddim that let him flash his incredible vocal range. When Murvin connected with Lee “Scratch” Perry later that decade, the two collaborated to create some legendary hits. At Perry's Black Ark studio, many of Murvin's tracks, like the classic "Roots Train", adopted the wobbly bass and hazy production that defined his later work.
