Hildur Guðnadóttir Essentials

Cellist and composer Hildur Guðnadóttir has been a fixture in Iceland’s experimental music scene since the dawn of the century, but her increasingly prolific output scoring soundtracks, particularly for the TV program Chernobyl, has catapulted her to global fame. She’s collaborated with Hauschka and the late Jóhann Jóhannsson, musicians who share her classical background without being captive to it. Her solo recordings enhance dark-toned strings with electronics to craft sounds simultaneously turbulent and meditative, while her work for cinema underlines a beguiling lushness with a nagging sense of dread, conveying a paranoid reality.
