Broadcast Essentials

Growing up with the BBC, which for years had used strange little electronic jingles in place of traditional incidental music, the members of Broadcast developed an early affinity for the wheezing, creaking sound of primitive synthesizers. To that foundation they added elements from the fringes of British pop history, from pastoral folk oddities to unsettling horror film soundtracks. Atop it all was the haunting voice of Trish Keenan, who sounded like a ‘60s pop singer lost in the world of the Brothers Grimm. Keenan died tragically in 2011, closing one chapter in Broadcast's short history.
