There are many strings to Tony Kakkar’s musical bow, not least his uncanny knack for radio-friendly pop tunes. But over Meherbaan’s eight tracks, the composer, singer and lyricist opts for a more understated approach. The record unfolds as if it were crafted for a quiet room on a late night, with hushed ballads and dreamy pop throughout. The cinematic title track—both subtle and vocally soaring—features the artist’s sister Sonu Kakkar alongside singers Abhijeet Srivastava and Amjad Bagadwa. And “Zindagi Bata De” punctuates the low-key mood with lively beats.
