Volkan Konak has the kind of rich, resonant pipes that could sell trainers to a snake. And since the late ‘80s, he's been putting that voice to the use it was obviously meant for: crooning Turkish tunes that keep the folk tradition alive while edging it forward at the same time. As influenced as the Northeastern singer/songwriter may be by his homeland's folk music legacy, he has contributed plenty of his own intensely emotional songs to the cause too.
