Prog metal band Voivod hail from Jonquière, Quebec, a factory town that inspired the band to create the otherworldly dystopian machines and creatures that populate their art and music. Their debut LP, '84's War and Pain, draws from speed metal and 70's prog to build out a post-apocalyptic realm where iron-clad gangs roam burning streets and violence is the coin of the realm. With '89's Nothingface the band's narrative drive and increasingly eclectic sonic palette won them a spot on the Billboard 200. Their most recent LP, Target Earth, was warmly received in '13.
