Traffic: Deep Cuts

Traffic: Deep Cuts

Traffic's album cuts show a band melting jazz, folk, and soul together out of sheer love. The blues guitar slashes in “Far from Home” are set against exploratory piano chords, and the funky percussive drive of 1967's “Dealer” makes its emotive point with a sad melody. Their finest trick was bringing a gospel ache to twisty, post-psychedelic epics like “Withering Tree” and “Many a Mile to Freedom.”
