Editors' Notes Hailey Whitters truly has been on a wild ride since releasing her debut album, The Dream, in February 2020, so her new track with fellow singer-songwriter Jordan Davis is appropriately titled. “The Ride” comes from the deluxe edition of that debut, Living the Dream, which adds five new songs featuring artists who helped Whitters turn her solo-artist dreams into a reality. Whitters and Davis duet on the inspirational midtempo anthem, which celebrates the ups and downs that make such journeys formative experiences. “It’s about the road to getting there,” Whitters tells Apple Music. “And enjoying the view as you're going and not just getting so caught up in the destination.” Elsewhere on the deluxe edition, Whitters realizes yet another dream in collaborating with one of her idols, Trisha Yearwood, on “How Far Can It Go?” Inspired by Yearwood’s own 1991 classic “She’s in Love With the Boy,” the fiddle-heavy story of two young, starry-eyed lovers is something of a passing of the torch, with country icon Yearwood endorsing Whitters’ blossoming artistry by lending her veteran voice to the track.
