With his trebly voice and earthy lyrics, Québécois singer/songwriter Benoit Pinette, who performs as Tire le coyote (Shoot the Coyote), bears an acknowledged resemblance to Neil Young. Pinette sings almost exclusively in French, however, and has been tilling metaphorical soil since the late '00s in literate verses that describe life as a process of weeding (the album Désherbage), harvesting ("Moissonneuse-batteuse"), and caulking the faults ("Calfeutrer les failles"). His twangy guitars and pedal steel have more recently been supplanted by subtle rhythmic shifts, as in "Toit cathédral” (Cathedral Roof).
