A true punk rock outfit, The Donnas were formed in 1993 by four Bay Area middle-school girls, taking their cues from The Ramones and The Runaways. After a flutter of indie singles, the band burst on the scene in 1997 with their eponymously titled debut, consisting of 14 tracks of shout-along garage-metal classics about sex, drugs, and teenage kicks. Over the next 12 years the ladies would go deeper into metal territory and release a trio of albums before stalling in 2009 over the injury-related departure of drummer Torry Castellano.
