The Cadillac Three isn’t a Southern rock band so much as a group that celebrates all sounds Southern. The Nashville trio of Jaren Johnston, Neil Mason, and Kelby Ray kicked off their recording career with a 2012 debut album showcasing a hard-stomping brand of electric blues. It’s not until their second and third records, 2016’s Bury Me in My Boots and 2017’s Legacy, that the three fully tap the rebellious spirit and denim toughness of Southern rock; even then, they’re tossing fans curveballs like “The South,” a roadhouse dance anthem featuring country-pop superstars Florida Georgia Line. Club grooves completely take over the band’s sound on 2020’s Tabasco & Sweet Tea. The Cadillac Three mixes funk, disco, and even a dash of hip-hop into a potent brew far more based in New Orleans and Houston music traditions than those of Music City.
