For all the musical and interpersonal chaos that's come to define The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Anton Newcombe is ultimately the kind of songwriter who can disarm you with a pretty tune. “Ballad of Jim Jones” is a delightfully Dylan-esque busker tune, while “This Is Why You Love Me” soars atop a glorious Byrdsian jangle. And “Evergreen” emerges from shoegaze haze with a blissed-out melody that'll leave you lightheaded.
