Part of the pleasure of following Superchunk is tracing the ways they make indie rock fresh and vital, subtly fleshing out their sound without abandoning its slash-and-burn attack. Violin adds depth to “Fractures in Plaster,” while “Misfits & Mistakes” bears trace amounts of funk. Boasting drum machine and dub effects, “Watery Hands (Wet Wurlitzer Mix)” is an unlikely outlier.
