Steve Earle exploded to the forefront of a changing country music scene in the '80s, releasing just a trio of records in that decade but leaving a huge mark. His rough-hewn, rock-informed sound on those albums—Guitar Town, Exit 0, and Copperhead Road—defined what would come to be known as alt-country.
