Stefie Shock surfaced in the mid-'80s as the drummer for Quebec rock band Sacred Cult, but his burgeoning musical ambitions could not be contained behind the kit. Since releasing his solo debut in 2000, he's proven himself to be one of Quebec's most charismatic songwriters and showmen, slathering his low, sonorous voice over everything from brass-buttressed soul shuffles to lecherous electro like a 21st-century Serge Gainsbourg. That influence has only become more entrenched—in 2016, he released an album of playful Gainsbourg covers to mark the 25th anniversary of the franco-pop icon's death.
