Precise, detailed jazz-pop may be the Dan's bread and butter, but that doesn't begin to cover their entire catalogue. Early on, they adopted the outlaw twang of hippie country rock (“With a Gun”) and cranked out fun-in-the-sun '70s pop with stinging guitar solos (“Change of the Guard”). But “Through with Buzz”—a 90-second piano ditty slathered in classical strings—may be their most delicious outlier.
