Status Quo's career has two distinct phases. Their psychedelic early hits were fashioned after the bedazzled power pop of The Move and Manfred Mann. But the amped-up John Lee Hooker boogie that was to become their signature came from a head-turning moment with “Roadhouse Blues” by The Doors, which suggested the way forward was a ferociously loud channelling of rock ‘n' roll's primal roots.
