Stanley Clarke Essentials

Though he's played straight-ahead jazz throughout his career, Stanley Clarke is most often associated with fusion. As a member of Chick Corea's Return to Forever, Clarke got plenty of jaws dropping with his fast-fingered work on both electric and standup bass. He also made a few rock-influenced solo albums, notably 1976's hit School Days, during his time with that band. The ‘80s brought Clarke's biggest pop success, in a funk/R&B duo with keyboardist George Duke. Recent years found him branching out into soundtrack work and playing in a number of bands, including a reunion with Corea.
