Sparks: Deep Cuts

Sparks: Deep Cuts

Even as they were riding the early-‘70s glam wave, L.A. eccentrics Sparks were already looking beyond rock, as evinced by the byzantine melodies and operatic expanse of “Here in Heaven”. After spending much of the ‘80s pumping out sardonic synth-pop tunes like “Popularity”, they went back to indulging their classical fetish on 2002's “How Do I Get to Carnegie Hall”, fusing complex piano lines with hysterical call-and-response choral refrains.
