Darren “Young D” Metz and Quinton “Yung Trybez” Nyce of Snotty Nose Rez Kids make their music first and foremost for the people in the community where they grew up: Kitamaat Village, a Haisla First Nation community in Northwest B.C. Thanks to their ample supply of dope beats and sly rhymes, Snotty Nose Rez Kids connect with plenty of others, too. The pair’s provocative name shows how much they love to skewer the stereotypes and slurs that are everyday reality for Indigenous people. At the same time, they’re frank about the real struggles they face. The results are smart, sharp tracks that cut deep, no matter how much fun these Kids are having.
