Bassist Scott LaFaro has shown up on some of the most essential jazz recordings of the 20th century. Not only are his lines heard on Bill Evans' monumental Portrait in Jazz (“Autumn Leaves”) and some of his own essential Village Vanguard recordings (“Gloria's Step [Take 2]”), but he also kept Ornette Coleman grounded on “R.P.D.D.” and offered fiery walking melodies on Stan Getz's “Airegin.”
