Renée Martel Essentials

Renée Martel Essentials

Like a French Canadian amalgam of Lulu, Anne Murray, and Tammy Wynette, Renée Martel established herself as a masterful interpreter of gentle pop and high lonesome tunes, sending her twangy sounds through a French-language filter. As a young girl growing up in the Quebec suburbs in the '50s and '60s, she performed alongside her country-singer father, but as the times (and trends) changed, Martel found her own voice as a lauded solo artist. Well into her 60s, she continued to pay tribute to her roots with the breezy trad-country stylings of songs dedicated to her beloved papa.
