Ray Charles: Influences

Ray Charles: Influences

Singer/pianist Ray Charles was dubbed “The Genius” in the '50s to honour how he brilliantly united many separate strains of American music. Jump blues bandleader Louis Jordan, country troubadour Hank Williams, and pop crooner Bing Crosby all informed his cosmopolitan songwriting. And the lively swing of his keyboard work owes a debt to jazz pianists like Bud Powell and George Shearing.
