Pan Sonic Essentials

Formed in 1993 by producers Mika Vainio and Ilpo Väisänen, Pan Sonic bridged the gap between industrial's harsh noise and minimal techno's driving pulse. Sculpting their beats from static and feedback, the Finnish duo's club-ready tracks could be incredibly stark and abrasive, and at their most abstract, Pan Sonic's glitch-riddled soundscapes and analog drones had a forbidding beauty. After releasing some of experimental techno's most ambitious albums, Vainio and Väisänen split up their partnership in 2009, travelling even further into the electronic avant-garde as solo artists.
