Daniel Lopatin's early work as Oneohtrix Point Never kicked off a retrofuturist revolution in ambient music: Layering buzzing vintage synths with samples of new age and forgotten electro-pop, the Brooklyn producer could turn virtually any sound into a portal to another world. His work has only gotten more complex over the years, folding in elements of noise, contemporary composition, advanced digital sound design, video art, and even fantastical genres of his own invention, like "hypergrunge," an electronic take on heavy metal that's moving, hilarious, and terrifying in equal measure.
