Nino D'Angelo Essentials

With his blue eyes and blonde mop-top hair, Gaetano D’Angelo must have been quite the sight when he knocked door-to-door in Naples to promote his first pop record in the late ’70s. Lovingly dubbed ‘Nino’, he was an instant hit and shone both in the charts—his call of “Forza Napoli” can still be heard echoing from the Stadio Maradona—and on screen in a string of romantic dramas. But his creative scope goes beyond just a love for his home city. Drawing on wider sonic influences, he has depicted vignettes of nervous lovers on the dance floor (“A Discoteca”) as well as the changing landscape and politics of Italy (“Jammo jà”).
