Despite a legendarily unstable lineup, Napalm Death have been unleashing extreme and uncompromising metal since the late '80s. Taking thrash metal and hardcore punk to a new level of speed and brutality, the band's 1987 debut Scum essentially invented grindcore, and the albums Napalm Death released in the '90s shaped the gruesome sound of death metal. Prolific and unrelenting, Napalm Death continue to rage in the new millennium, and many one-time members went on to form equally iconic metal acts like Godflesh, Carcass, and Cathedral.
