Motown Records' genius songwriters rarely produced simple love songs. Nearly every one that came out on the label reflected the gorgeous complexity of humanity's most difficult and confusing emotion. With a few easy-going exceptions, Motown love songs typically reflected the sense of desperation, fear that it will all end too soon, and intense longing that come with being in love.
