Motown: Girl Groups

In the early ‘60s, Motown was working hard to catch up with the girl groups already populating the charts. While the label had its first No. 1 with The Marvelettes in '61 and essentially took over the field with The Supremes in '64, the ladies of Motown were more than just entertainment. In their songs both tough and sweet, we hear young women carving their own paths toward a turbulent era ahead.
