Mixtape for Mother Earth
In honour of Earth Day, Jack Johnson takes over our Mixtape for Mother Earth playlist with a selection of songs to pay tribute to our planet. Among his choices the singer-songwriter includes “Two Little Feet” by Greg Brown. Johnson tells Apple Music that the folk singer “is such an inspiration” to him: “His lyrics can break your heart and make you laugh at life’s absurdity at the same time. ‘Two Little Feet’—a story about John Muir walking away into the woods—is a perfect example of [Brown’s] brilliant storytelling. My favourite line: ‘It’s a messed-up world, but I love it anyway.’” He also chose “1983… (A Merman I Should Turn to Be)” by The Jimi Hendrix Experience, which he says is his “all-time favourite underwater soundscape,” describing it as “a song about escaping to the ocean when it’s all too much on land. I fell in love with this track right when I was learning to play guitar, so it holds a special place in my heart.” Listen to those picks and more below. And if you hear something you like, add it to your library.
