Latin trap and reggaetón artist Mariah Angeliq grew up in Miami and New Jersey, and music—perhaps even more than Spanish or English—was her first language. By the time she was 16 years old, she had left home and was trying to make it as a trap artist when the revered reggaetón producer Nely discovered her and convinced her to try rapping in Spanish. It was a good call: With her clean, cool, and deceptively effortless flow, Angeliq had a breakout hit with “Perreito” in 2019. Her assured debut EP, Normal, released in 2020, proved she was no one-hit wonder, and the singer has continued to rack up a stack of collaborations.
