Dutch sound artist Rutger Zuydervelt launched his prolific Machinefabriek project in 2004, as his boundary-breaking drones overtook the attention of the global experimental community. Mixing analogue electronics with evocative field recordings, Zuydervelt's pieces unfold at a glacial pace, drawing listeners into a world of mesmerizing abstract sound. While his drones can often be placid and quite beautiful, Zuydervelt's love of rough industrial texture keeps his work more avant-garde than ambient.
