Hailing from a small village in New Brunswick, Les Hay Babies surfaced in the early 2010s to put an Acadian spin on the rustic indie-folk sound blowing up at the time. On their 2014 debut, Mon Homesick Heart, the bilingual finger-pickin’ trio of Julie Aubé, Katrine Noël, and Vivianne Roy endeared themselves to French-Canadian audiences through feel-good foot stompers like “Fil de téléphone.” But they’ve since ventured far beyond the hootenanny: 2016’s “Motel 1755” flirts with jangly power pop, while 2020’s Boite aux Lettres refashions them as a flower-powered girl group, complete with a smouldering francophone rendition of the mid-’60s Stones classic “Play With Fire.”
