The band name translates from French as “the smiling boot,” and La Bottine Souriante have made toe-tapping and heel-stomping folk for four decades. Sometimes you can hear the band members' own boots marking time, as on the giddy-up of “Sur la montagne du loup,” while “La ziguezon” pairs such a metre to their stunning five-part harmonies. And the epic “2033” features all of the above, as well as some dizzying fiddle work.
