Kyle Kinane is an aging punk with a gruff demeanour and a bottomless sack of self-deprecating yarns and sloppy, Mitch Hedberg-inspired wordplay. Since the early '00s, the native Chicagoan has crafted an approach to comedic storytelling that opens with everyday life experiences, like getting pulled over while cycling (“Way of the World”) or falling asleep at the wheel (“I Know What I Want”), before diving into surreal meditations on his own stupidity, failings, or bad drinking habits. And Kinane isn't afraid of dredging up dark thoughts: “Great Expectations” is a savagely honest look at unconscious stereotyping.
