The late Joey Jordison earned an A+ in every metric by which a drummer can be measured. Dig into any one of the records he made with Slipknot between 1996 and 2008, and you’ll hear a musician who possessed a singular mix of technical proficiency, hellish aggression, and jazz-informed ingenuity. While his double-pedal work elicited comparisons to Slayer’s Dave Lombardo, his cyclonic fills rivalled those of The Who’s Keith Moon. It’s a brilliance he brought to all his projects, VIMIC and the brutal Sinsaenum among them. Jordison even played punk-rock guitar with the Murderdolls, proving that he was, on top of everything else, wildly versatile.
