Joe Strummer is best known as the frontman of The Clash, but the punk-rock legend’s body of work is incredibly eclectic. Breaking through in the mid-’70s with pub-rock band The 101ers and then The Clash as a 20-something in West London, he folded sonic influences such as reggae into punk cuts like “Bankrobber.” Strummer was a rock ‘n’ roller at heart and his rebellious agitprop became his trademark, but his catalog is strewn with off-piste adventures, including the soul-tinged funk of The Clash's “The Magnificent Seven” and the breakbeat electro of “Yalla Yalla” by The Mescaleros, whom he played with until his death in 2002.
