Jill Barber Essentials

Not content to be tied to one style, Jill Barber started out as a folkie on early albums A Note to Follow So and Oh Heart, and switched to country, ragtime, and smokey soul on her proper entrance, For All Time. But it was on her retro jazz album Chances that Barber found her true calling. She picked up where she left off on Mischievous Moon, and sang in French on the 2013 covers album Chansons before surprising again with the following year's Motown-inspired Fool's Gold. The unifying thread is her evocative alto voice, which brings rich texture and mystery to every tune.
