When Jake Bugg first emerged in 2012, while still in his teens, the singer-songwriter's scrappy, heartfelt music was a far cry from the slicker, clubbier tracks that dominated the UK charts. Yet Bugg (born in Nottingham in 1994) was an immediate hit with audiences and critics thanks to the raw and compelling authenticity of songs that felt like equal parts '60s Bob Dylan folk and '90s Oasis rock. In spite of those initial trad trappings, Bugg expanded his stylistic scope, shifting into a richer, more ornate arrangement for 2019's "Kiss Like the Sun" and making a foray into dance music with 2021's "Lost." His earnest lyrics and gritty voice ensure his sound stays grounded in the fundamentals that made him so special.
