With lyrics so incendiary that their songs were occasionally banned from U.K. airplay, new wave act XTC became a studio-only project when singer/guitarist Andy Partridge suffered a breakdown on stage in 1982. Yet their influence can be felt far and wide, with acts like Blur, Vampire Weekend, and The Beta Band borrowing bits of their unique sound.
